predictability of telly soaps

Our Television dramas indeed takes too many dramatic turns driving most viewers’ bananas. Just when everything seems to go fine, we see the most outrageous twist in the storyline. To predict a soap story line is like walking on a two edged sword where the exercise can only hurt viewers’ sanity. This article recaps some of the most run of the mill clichĂ©d tracks that we see. Here is your chance to voice your views on them, vent out your pent up steam and have a blast. So judge what you want to see..!!

Reincarnation Vs Leap

The mantra of Television shows and producers these days is to introduce a “leap” in the tale every time there is a drop in TRP rating to recapture viewers’ attention. And why not, as most of the "Leaps" have indeed infused fresh blood into their shows and sent the TRPs sky rocketing!! Reincarnations - a popular concept in bollywood, somehow has not been able to weave out the same magic in the television world. Stories like Aaj bhi Ateet and Pyaar ke do naam, Kaajal are best examples. So if you are given a choice, what would you opt for – a leap or a reincarnation. By the way, why are leaps mostly of 20 years, why not some other digit?

Mother India Vs Crying Mother

If on one side we have Maa Tulsi leading a band of firebrand Mother India’s propagating naari shakti, then on the other side we have the perennially crying ladies bearing the brunt of the antagonism meted out to them by their in-laws or bitter halves. If one side you have the naari shakti morcha leaders like Tulsi, Parvati, Bani (Durga), Vidya, Kumkum, Kasturi on the “Roote Murti” side there is Prachi, Laxmi, Anupama or Saloni, playing the role of ultimate sacrificing queens!! What do you all think about this? You prefer the fearless woman or the tearful one?

Triangle Vs Quadrangle

There is nothing like love stories with happy endings!! But in our television serials, we have never seen ending love stories! As SRK says..in OSO "Picture abhi baaki hai mere dost"!! They have too many angles to keep the story going on for ages. In Kyunki - Tulsi loved Mihir but there was Mandira and then Thakral, in Kayamath Prachi loved Neev, then Milind, but Neev still loves Prachi; in Kasamh se, Jai loved Pia then Bani, but Bani always loved Jai, Pia loved Pushkar then fell for Jai and Meera has also entered the fray. Confused!! Well this is the circle of frustration for the viewers to help spiral the TRPs. So what do you prefer to watch - love Triangle, Quadrangle or circles? Sorry no straight line here.

Village Vs City

This is latest trend which is very popular among the directors these days as all the shows of television are being based on Villages or on small cities. Be it Sangam, Amber Dhara, Salam Zindagi, all started from a small village. Now even the new channels have launched with the same theme. What do we prefer to watch, Village or City?

Biological Vs Adopted Kids

In most of the soaps if we have one Biological Kid, then there are 3 adopted ones. Whether it is in Kyunki, Kasauti or any other soap, this is the “Kahani serials serials ki”. What is our take on all the adaptations of adoption Vs biological?

Wild Card Vs New Entrant

If one thing in reality shows drive the viewers wild – it is the introduction of the wild card entry or a new entrant making a direct entry at an advanced stage. Which contestant do you prefer -those who have been voted out in the past and making a return or those who come up at the later stage and get direct entry to the finals?
